Counter and Anti-Surveillance

Most people never notice the person who has been behind them for three streets, or the car that pulled out when they did. Not because they are careless, but because nobody ever taught them what to look for. Surveillance relies on blending in. Spotting it is a skill, and like any skill it can be learned.

Counter versus anti

Counter-surveillance is about detecting that you are being watched: noticing repetition of people, vehicles and behaviour over time and distance. Anti-surveillance is about making yourself a harder target: varying routines, choosing routes and locations that expose a follower, and denying them the information they want.

How we teach it

Theory only goes so far. Our courses combine short classroom sessions with practical exercises on real streets, where participants try to spot a surveillance team and then try to lose it. It is often the most memorable training people attend.

Who it is for

Executives and principals who may be targets. Close protection officers, chauffeurs and security teams who need to protect them. Journalists, campaigners and people in contentious disputes. Families who have received threats.

If you believe you are being followed now, our counter-surveillance service can check for you. For the investigator’s side of the craft, see covert surveillance training. Enquire about a course.
