Threat Analysis

Security spending often follows the last thing that went wrong, or the last thing someone read about. One building gets an expensive camera system while the real risk, a disgruntled former employee who still has a key, goes unnoticed. Good protection starts with a better question: who would actually want to cause harm here, and how would they do it?

Threat, vulnerability, impact

A threat analysis looks at three things together. The threat: the individuals and groups with motive and capability, from opportunist thieves and activists to fixated individuals and organised criminals. The vulnerability: how easily they could succeed. The impact: what would be lost if they did. Only when all three are understood can protection be proportionate.

For whom

Businesses with offices, sites or a public profile. Families and individuals with wealth or prominence. Organisations hosting events, opening new premises or facing a contentious decision. Anyone who has received a threat and needs to know how seriously to take it.

What you receive

A clear, plain-English assessment of the realistic threats, ranked by likelihood and impact, with recommendations that range from simple behavioural changes to physical and technical measures. We are candid about where the risk is low, so money is not wasted.

Threat analysis underpins everything else in our physical and personal security work. For threats beyond the UK, see geopolitical analysis. Start with an assessment.
