Schools face a difficult balance. They need to feel open and welcoming to parents and the community, yet keep out anyone who should not be there. Universities sprawl across cities, with thousands of people moving freely through buildings that hold research, personal data and residential accommodation. In both, security often depends on busy staff noticing the one person who does not belong.
Safeguarding comes first
Every test is planned with the school or institution’s leadership and safeguarding lead. We agree when testing can take place, what is in scope and how it will be supervised, so that pupils and students are never involved or alarmed.
What we test
Perimeters and site entrances. Reception and visitor sign-in, including how identity is checked. Whether unaccompanied visitors can reach classrooms, staff areas or boarding houses. How well lockdown procedures would work in practice. For universities, access to laboratories, IT spaces and halls of residence.
Supporting your duties
Findings help governors, trustees and leadership teams show that site security has been tested and is being improved, which supports safeguarding responsibilities and inspection readiness.
Practical recommendations
We focus on proportionate changes that do not turn a school into a fortress, from better sign-in processes to staff awareness and simple physical improvements.
Lockdown and evacuation planning is covered under emergency response plans. Speak to us about your site.
