A CV, a LinkedIn profile and two references tell you the story someone has chosen to tell. Most of the time that story is true. When it is not, the cost of finding out later, once they have keys to your house, access to your accounts or a seat at your board table, can be very high indeed.
The people clients ask us about
Senior executives and finance staff with authority over money. Nannies, drivers, housekeepers and close protection officers who will be inside a family’s private life. A prospective business partner who seems almost too well connected. A new romantic partner whose past is oddly hard to pin down. Tenants for a valuable property. The questions differ, but they all come back to one thing: is this person who they say they are, and is there anything in their history you would want to know?
What a check can establish
Depending on the purpose and the consent available, we verify identity and addresses, confirm employment and qualifications, review directorships, insolvencies and court records, and look at adverse media and online footprint. For more sensitive roles we go further, speaking discreetly to people who can corroborate or contradict the account we have been given.
Within the law
Background checks must respect data protection and employment law, and some checks need the individual’s knowledge and consent. We will tell you what is appropriate for the role or relationship in question, and we never use unlawful methods to obtain information. That protects the subject, and it protects you if a decision is later challenged.
Romance and relationship checks
Romance fraud is common and it targets successful, intelligent people. If something about a new relationship does not add up, a quiet check can bring peace of mind, or an early warning, without confrontation.
