St. Patrick’s Day

It’s St. Patrick’s Day today (17th March) and friends and colleagues will no doubt be getting together to celebrate in style. It’s an opportunity to have some fun at the pub with drinks likely to be in full flow.

Whilst having a good night out will be at the forefront of your mind, make sure you stay safe. Sadly, when people don’t take their safety seriously they can end up a victim of crime.

Enjoy a pint of the black stuff, stay safe and Valkyrie wish you a ‘CRAICING’ St. Patrick’s Day! Actually its double Irish celebration if you’re a rugby fan, England 15 – Ireland 32

As a reminder – 7 Top tips for a safe night out:

  1. Safety in numbers:  Always try to stay within a group. By remaining close to the people you trust and know well you’ll reduce the risk of being targeted by people who may want to take advantage

  1. Get taxis or arrange a lift:  When traveling (especially at night) always book a taxi or get a lift with a trusted person. Taking a cab is worth the extra expense to ensure you get home safely. If travelling by bus try to sit on the lower deck close to the exit/driver. Inform someone of your movements and when to expect you back

  1. Always book your taxi:  Only book licensed mini-cabs/taxis you know (reputable and reliable). Black cabs are the only type of private hire that you can hail on the street unlike all other cabs which must be pre-booked via phone or app. Don’t be tempted to get into an unlicensed cab for a quicker ride home

  1. Drink in moderation & watch your drink:  Always stay in control when drinking alcohol – know your limits and never push them. Keep a close eye on your drinks and never leave them unattended

  1. Stay in well-lit areas:  If walking home after a night out or moving between venues, always stay in well-lit areas where there are plenty of people about. People are less likely to commit a crime if there is good lighting, CCTV and people around to see what is happening. Always plan a route home and stick to places you know

  1. Keep valuables hidden:  People will often have valuables stolen on a night out and if you’re drunk, you are an easier target. Keep all valuables like phones, wallets and purses out of view and ideally stowed away in zipped pockets/bags

  1. Avoid hostile situations:  Don’t be a hero on a night out. If there is an altercation or an argument try not to get involved, seek t help from door-personnel or the police
