Happy Birthday to the Royal Marines

Happy birthday to the Royal Marines, 358 today!

Formed in the reign of King Charles II on October 28, 1664 as the Duke of York and Albany’s Maritime Regiment of Foot (or Admiral’s Regiment), the name Marines first appeared in the records in 1672 and in 1802 they were titled the Royal Marines by King George III.

Dave Webb still has a few photos of his days in the Royal Marines and dug out this one which he’s pretty sure was taken during a ‘summer time’ NATO exercise in Norway (late 80’s/early 90’s?) – I’m sure someone will correct Dave if he’s wrong ?.

Have a great weekend.
