Another disturbing incident, mirroring the kidnapping of Ledger co-founder David Balland in January, has emerged—this time in Spain.
On February 1, 2025, Spanish authorities launched an investigation after a British cryptocurrency broker was kidnapped on the Costa del Sol. The victim had met his captors at a Marbella hotel two weeks earlier. After discussing his work in crypto, he was invited for drinks at a property in Estepona, where he was held hostage. Police believe the kidnappers targeted him after learning about his wealth and crypto access.
As with the Balland case, this highlights how criminals exploit personal interactions to profile and abduct high-net-worth crypto investors. These incidents reinforce the need for discretion, heightened personal security, and proactive risk mitigation in both physical and digital spaces.
