Kidnap and extortion are rarer than films suggest and far more common than most people realise. Today they include express kidnaps abroad, threats against family members, sextortion and criminals threatening to publish stolen company data unless they are paid. Each one arrives with the same message: act now, tell no one, pay.
Prevention first
Most kidnap and extortion attempts exploit predictable routines, careless travel and information that is freely available online. We assess the exposure of individuals, families and organisations, reduce their digital footprint and help them travel and live in ways that make them harder targets. Preparation
If an incident happens, the decisions made in the first conversation can shape everything that follows. We help organisations and families decide in advance who would lead, how contact would be handled and which advisers, insurers and authorities would be involved.
During an incident
When a threat is made, we provide calm, experienced advice to the family or crisis team, working alongside the police and, where a policy is in place, the insurer’s appointed responders. Our priority is always the safe return of the victim and the wellbeing of those around them.
A legal point worth knowing
In the UK it is a criminal offence to make a payment that may be used for terrorism, including some ransom payments. Never agree to or make any payment without specialist and legal advice.
After it ends
Victims and families often need support long after an incident is resolved. We help with security reviews, ongoing protection and the practical steps needed to return to normal life.
