Valkyrie offers forensically sound recovery of deleted, damaged or corrupted data, preserving its value as evidence. Ordinary recovery services aim to get files back. We aim to get them back in a way that can be explained and relied on in proceedings.
Recovery versus forensic recovery
A commercial recovery may restore a file but lose the information about where it came from and when it was deleted. Our approach records how each item was recovered and what that tells us, which can matter as much as the content itself.
What we can work with
- Deleted files on computers, external drives and memory cards
- Devices that have been reset, reformatted or partly overwritten
- Corrupted or physically damaged storage
- Old devices and backups that may hold historic evidence
Being realistic
Recovery is not always possible. Encryption, modern solid-state drives and continued use of a device can permanently remove data. We assess the device first and give a candid view of what is likely before significant cost is incurred.
Questions
Will trying to recover the data ourselves cause harm?
It can. Installing recovery software or continuing to use the device may overwrite exactly what you need. Stop using it and seek advice.
Can deliberate deletion itself be evidence?
Yes. Showing that material was deleted, and when, can be highly relevant, particularly after a preservation duty has arisen.
