What to Look Out for in 2025: Security & Cyber Threats

Valkyrie are pleased to share that our latest article is featured on page 328 of Life magazine’s January edition. As 2025 begins, it’s worth taking a moment to consider how evolving technology is shaping the security landscape—whether in our homes, our digital lives, or even in the way we protect sensitive personal data.

The article highlights key risks, including AI-powered phishing scams, the growing vulnerabilities of smart home devices, and the increasing sophistication of physical security threats. It also examines the dangers of AI-driven fraud and the misuse of social media by criminals, both of which are trending.

In addition to these challenges, Gurpreet Thathy, Valkyrie’s Cyber Security and Electronic Countermeasures Director, highlights two further emerging areas to watch. Firstly, the threat to personal data posed by rapid rise in wearable tech and health apps which collect increasingly intimate details about our daily lives. Ensuring this sensitive information is securely stored and shared responsibly is becoming ever more critical. Also, he advises us to remain vigilant to the implications of quantum computing, which while still in its early stages, has the potential to render today’s encryption methods obsolete, raising significant questions for the future of cybersecurity.

We hope this piece provides useful insights into the year ahead, offering practical considerations for protecting what matters most in an ever-evolving security environment. Understanding potential threats and how they affect us all is key to building better awareness and, in turn, strengthening our defences for the challenges ahead.
