Diwali

For many Indians across the world both Sikhs and Hindus, they will be celebrating the festival of light called Diwali. This day falls on Monday 24th October this year and celebrates the victory of good over evil.

For the Sikhs, Diwali is a story of the struggle for freedom. It celebrates the victory of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind, from the designs of Emperor Jahangir, who had imprisoned him and 52 other princes with him in 1619.

Hindus celebrate the return of Deities, Rama and Sita to Ayodhya after their 14-year exile.

Sikhs and Hindus both light candles as a symbol of hope and guidance and the victory of good over evil and light over darkness.

At Valkyrie, we’re honoured to be part of the celebrations at Lords Cricket Ground, celebrating the festival. It’s great when you get to see all the cricket memorabilia around the ground, although Gurpreet Singh Thathy got a telling off from the staff as he wandered over to MCC members area ?.
